To memorise words is not knowledge; to memorise words and repeat words like a parrot is cramming. There are the individuals who do not know the meaning of 'Hafiz of Quran.' A simple word for 'Hafiz' in English is 'Guard.' Hafiz-e-Quran are those who are guarding the Quran.
Where is Quran, how are you guarding it and who are you guarding it against? You are the protector of Quran. You become a protector of Quran when the memory chip of Quran from the heart of Prophet Mohammad is shared by your heart; when all the exoteric and esoteric knowledge, the inner dimension and the outer dimension of the knowledge is stored in your heart - and the divinely understood meaning of Quran is also granted to your heart.
Protection of the Quran is totally based on having the right, divinely-approved interpretation of the book. How will you protect the Quran? When some people will give a reference from Quran and they will tell the world the wrong meaning of the Quran, you will stand up on your feet and you will say, 'No this is wrong; this is not what it means. I'll tell you what it really means.'
You will not let people develop a misconception or misinterpretation of the Holy Word. How will you convince people? You will have in your heart authority, power and light. People will sit in your company and they will feel as if the burden of sins is lifting off them. They will feel that they are becoming light. They will feel their heart is now drawn towards God's love.
Whenever one sits in your company, he feels he is closer to God.
Although he doesn't know where exactly in that company God is sitting; however, he can feel God is not far when he is with you.
