What is the difference between messengerhood and prophethood, and why is it important to know in the case of Prophet Mohammad? Read the full transcript of this video in Urdu here.
Main points:
- In terms of prophethood, all prophets are equal in the eyes of God. However, there is more to Prophet Mohammad than his prophethood. For example, the body of Adam was created with the clay from Paradise while Prophet Mohammad’s body was created with God’s light (Noor). God didn’t declare for any other prophet besides Prophet Mohammad, ‘I have sent you as mercy for all mankind.’
- Messengers are sent to establish a religion while prophets are sent to reform what has been adulterated within their religions. Prophet Mohammad is both a messenger and a prophet. After Prophet Mohammad, God declared that there would be no more prophets. Prophet Mohammad’s benevolence as a messenger was granted to immediate followers while his benevolence as a prophet was reserved to be distributed to the saints of his nation as need arose. The saints who received this benevolence would reform the religion as prophets had done in other religions; they enlightened the hearts of Muslims.
- Prophet Mohammad received two types of revelation: one as a messenger and one as a prophet. The revelation related to his prophethood was not used immediately but kept for when the religion would become subject to mischief. Mujaddid Alif Thani, the Grand Reformer, came 1000 years after establishment of Islam. He received a small amount of benevolence from Prophet Mohammad’s rank as a prophet. The rest of the knowledge and blessings of Prophet Mohammad’s prophethood was kept for Imam Mehdi. A Prophetic Tradition states that Imam Mehdi would renew the religion completely after Islam would come to an end.
- There is even more to Prophet Mohammad than him being a prophet and messenger. He possessed two extra souls which originate from God: Tifl-e-Noorie and Jussa-e-Taufiq-e-Ilahi. They relate to Faqr (spiritual poverty) and Ishq (rapturous love) respectively. Different Companions of Prophet Mohammad were granted benevolence of either Faqr or Ishq. Furthermore, Prophet Mohammad’s soul was created to witness God’s splendour; there, his soul says God’s name and God says its name. His subtlety of Ana, called Mehmood, also has its own station.
