Younus AlGohar answers a question from a viewer who wanted to know how Muslims should handle blasphemous caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
Main points:
- People who make such caricatures are mischief-mongers who are trying to incite Muslims towards violence. Because of the terrorist activity being done under the label of Islam, Muslims have to be very careful in this delicate matter. Muslims need to bring their concerns to the global community in a civilised manner - they must contact their governments with their concerns. That is what will make a real difference. If you protest in anger and destroy people’s property in your country, it doesn’t serve the purpose.
- No cartoons were drawn in Prophet Mohammad’s era. In Prophet Mohammad’s era, things were very different: people could walk around with swords in hand and things like Qisas ul Diyat would be applied because of the general lack of law in the area. Today, we have a modern system of governance and advanced technology, which means that many things that applied in Prophet Mohammad’s era do not apply today. For example, because it has become so easy and convenient to travel, Qasr Salat is no longer applicable.
- People have the audacity to make blasphemous caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad because today, Muslims have lost their honour in the eyes of the global community. They are not strong. The Koran 3:139 says that Muslims would remain to be dominant upon the world as long as they would be Momin (Enlightened Believers). When Muslims became divided into sects and they no longer had divine energy in their hearts, that is when they lost their power and strength. Today, Muslims have a reputation in the world for being money-worshippers, not God-fearing people. Why are the wealthy Muslim countries not standing up for this issue? This is because they no longer have faith in their hearts.
