Food for Thought on Youm Ashura

Today, the 10th of Muharram, reminds us of the shameful and horrendous events that transpired during the Battle of Karbala. It is a time to ponder and remember.

The following are comments from the Representative of Imam Mehdi, His Holiness Younus AlGohar, on this mournful day.

We mark the day of Youm Ashura, the 10th of Moharram. This is when the grandson of the Prophet Mohammad, Imam Hussain, was martyred. Imam Hussain was first betrayed by unenlightened Muslims of the city of Kufa. Then, Yazid bin Muawiyya killed him to confirm his place in the hell.

Had those Muslims been true followers of the Prophet Mohammad, they would not have killed the beloved grandson of the Prophet. There is no difference between Dajjal and a Muslim whose heart is not enlightened.

Imam Mehdi Syedna Gohar Shahi said that the history of the martyrdom of Hussain will be repeated, and this time the followers of Imam Mehdi would face the tyranny and oppression of the Muslims without Emaan (faith) in their hearts.

A true Muslim is one who loves the Prophet Mohammad more than his parents and all other human beings. How on earth can those call themselves Muslims who killed Hussain (whom the Prophet Mohammad loved so dearly)?

If a Muslim doesn't love the Prophet more than all else, that Muslim is a Munafiq (hypocrite). The core of Islam is the love of the Prophet Mohammad. It is very unfortunate that today's Muslims do not know how to love the Prophet Mohammad.

A man came running to the Prophet Mohammad. He asked how he could love God. The Prophet Mohammad said, 'Adopt calamity and trouble, because God has attached calamity and trouble with his love, so that fake claimants of love may keep off.'

Another man came and asked the Prophet how he could love the Prophet. The Prophet Mohammad said, 'Adopt the doctrine of Faqr (spirituality), because God has attached my love within Faqr.' How can a Muslim manage to love the Prophet Mohammad when he rejects the doctrine of Faqr?
