Nafs Ki Paki Ke Marahil | ALRA TV

What is the Carnal Self? How does it become purified and what are the different stages of purification for the Carnal Self? Find out in Younus AlGohar’s lecture!

Main points:

- The Carnal Self is a ball of fire and it is located at your navel point. The evil energy from the Carnal Self radiates into your blood and attacks your entire body. It is within you but you cannot see it. Since you cannot see it, how will you fight it? This is why you need a Perfect Spiritual Guide.

- The Perfect Spiritual Guide will arrest your Carnal Self with his spiritual power; he will handcuff the Carnal Self. The Spiritual Guide encaptures the Carnal Self in a circle of Divine Light which ensures that no evil energy can enter it. Now, the diet of the Carnal Self has been stopped by the Spiritual Guide.

- The Carnal Self will be hungry and the Spiritual Guide tells it, ‘I can give you food but I do not have the diet of evil energy, I only have Divine Light.’ Many Carnal Selves are stubborn and they do not wish to intake the Divine Light as a result of which, they perish. However, some Carnal Selves accept the diet of Divine Light out of necessity.

-  The Spiritual Guide tells the Carnal Self to recite the Kalima because it will generate a constant supply of Divine Light which will feed it at the same time. As a result of which, the Carnal Self begins to change. From Ammarah (Commanding Self) it turns into Lawwama (Blameworthy Self) and from Lawamma it turns into Mulhima which is the completion of purification for an Enlightened Believer.

- The final stage of the purification of the Carnal Self is Mutmaina (Contented Self) and this is not for the Enlightened Believer. This stage is not acquired through the Divine Light of the Kalima. This is only for the saints and it can only be obtained through the Divine Theophanies.

Calling Humanity Through God’s Love

You will rarely see a guy who wants to love God. Most religious people do only talk about Paradise and its damsels.
Seeking union with God or love of God is a thing of mythology for a majority of religious people. Most religious people don’t buy the notion of God’s love.
If you closely and delicately examine the difference between luxuries of the world and the Paradise, it’s just a matter of quality; their nature is the same. How can those be pure in the heart who ignore God and only seek their own pleasure?

According to the Koran 41:31, ‘There you will find in Paradise everything that a Nafs (Carnal Self) aches for.’ Paradise does not contain the pleasure of love.

When God created human beings for the reason that God may be known and may be loved, then why do humans go after the pleasure and comforts of Paradise? Paradise has nothing else to offer but the pleasures to the Carnal Self.

What a distraction! What a mirage.
His Divine Eminence Ra Gohar Shahi is calling the nations of the world through God’s love and mutual human love. His Divine Eminence is inviting humanity to enslave their evil nature and embrace love — a divine attribute.

#AskYounusAlGohar - What is the Purpose of Fasting?

Fasting is a struggle to purify your Carnal Self. To refrain from eating is just one aspect of fasting.

The purpose of fasting is to reduce the intake of Negative Energy (Naar) and increase the intake of Divine Energy (Noor).

Negative Energy enters your body at all times while you breathe. However when we eat, we obtain a lot [more] Negative Energy. So in a fast, you stop eating for 15-16 hours to stop the Carnal Self from obtaining its diet of Negative Energy. When a person gets ill, he stops eating; but in order to get well, you still have to take medicine. During a fast, different types of worship such as Taraweeh and Salat are all ways to increase Divine Energy in you.

Fasting was prescribed to Christians also. It was something which had been made a religious obligation upon many nations before Islam. You are trying to weaken your Carnal Self, which is the source of all evil in your body. However, keeping yourself away from consumption of food is just one very tiny element of inner purification.

During fasting, you refrain from consumption of all foods, but at the same time, you must be able to replace that Negative Energy with Divine Energy so that your Carnal Self becomes purified.

Therefore to practise fasting effectively, one has to be enlightened in the heart. One’s heart must be articulated with God’s name; one’s heart must have learnt the art of producing Divine Energy.
If your heart is still not open and you are fasting, the job is only half done. Since the job is only half done, it is not going to benefit you in any way.
You will feel like you’ve taken some depression tablets when you fast. You’ll feel like you have calmed down. That is all you will get by the half job. If you continue to practise fasting without an enlightened heart, it is not going to benefit you at all.

As a result, you can see we are in the holy month of Ramadan. However, those ‘Muslims’ especially who do not get tired proclaiming that they are the purest of all Muslims – instead of purifying themselves, they are busy in human slaughter. They’re carrying out an organised butchery of mankind. Had their hearts and thought processes been purified; had their inner selves been purged, they would not even want to harm a tiny insect.

I am explaining the spiritual mechanism of fasting. Fasting in one sentence is to cut down on the intake of Negative Energy and increase the intake of Divine Energy. This is only possible when your heart is enlightened and has learned the art of producing Divine Energy.

Those who take every aspect of the religion as a ritual don’t dig beyond that ritualistic understanding. They are just wasting their time. Their practice of any ritual is futile – a complete waste. You can see the results. There are over a billion Muslims all over the world. But to be honest with you, even with the education they have, practically speaking, they are the farthest from any moral or religious values. They are those who don’t even know what ethical values are. Their religiosity is based on blindfoldedly practised rituals.

These rituals will only benefit you when you have learnt to effectively receive the spiritual benefits of that practice. Therefore any religious practice today in the absence of spirituality is a complete waste of time and energy. The result is null and void. Simple as that.

Unlocking Your Spiritual Potential

Self-realisation is a very profound subject, because your Self has different dimensions. You are not a single soul living; you’re a multi-spiritual being. Discovery of each soul has its own respective realisation, so self-realisation is a multi-layered realisation.

Not everybody is fully aware of who he is. They may have gone through vigorous spiritual austerities and acquired higher stages and statuses in spirituality, however when it comes to measuring the volume of self-realisation, it has always been incomplete.

In self-realisation, you start with your Carnal Self (Nafs) and you purify it. Then you come to know the purpose and use of this soul in you. You learn exactly what you should do to make it functional in your body.

Each soul has different functions. Some functions help you with your physical body and other spiritual functions will help you progress in your spiritual journey.
Knowing what functions one respective soul has is the realisation of what you have. For example, you may have a car, but if you don’t know what you use the car for, you don’t have car-realisation.
The Carnal Self is in your body but you do not know its functions. Realisation begins when you activate this particular soul that lies inactive in you, when you’re fully aware of its abilities and capabilities; not just that, but also you know how to master your Carnal Self, how to use it and how to perform spiritual journeys with it.

Realisation will go further up once you have attained the utter spiritual purity and cleansing of your Carnal Self. From there, you progress toward the purification of your spiritual heart. Having purified and revived the spiritual faculty of the heart, you will then come to know its functions.

Most Sufis only know about revival, awakening and enlightenment.
Lord Ra Riaz Gohar Shahi doesn’t only talk about the enlightenment, revival and purification; Lord Ra Riaz also teaches the functions of the spiritual heart. He tells you exactly what you can do with the help of the spiritual heart.
For example, Lord Ra Riaz oftentimes talks about the first function of the spiritual heart as being a telephone operator when it is fully enlightened. You will be able to be in contact with God via one of the functions of the spiritual heart.
Your heart will become a mouthpiece with which you will be able to communicate with God.
Realisation is about obtaining enlightenment, purification, revival and on top of that, the usage. If you know what it is but you cannot use it, what is the point? In my understanding, the spiritual calibre of knowing and utilising the functions is realisation of the self.

There are seven souls in you. You should know what each soul can do for you, how each soul will push you towards God and what level of spiritual journey can be performed with what individual soul.
All these souls have their own functions; becoming a master and being able to learn all the functions is complete realisation of the self. You are not confined to your Carnal Self; your main self is your soul.
You should know what your soul can do, what your spiritual heart can do, what Sirri (The Most Obscure) can do and what Akhfah (The Most Hidden) can do.

Revival and enlightenment is one thing, but then to be able to use the souls well according to their purpose is true realisation.

For example, if your Akhfah is enlightened and you also know the functions, then you don’t need a telephone. You’ll just think about someone, you’ll speak and that person will hear you no matter where he is.

There were no loudspeakers in the past. People say that there used to be 70 000 attendees who would come to the lectures of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (a renowned Sufi). There was no system of loudspeakers or sound system; even then, every single person in his attendance would clearly hear his speech. People declared it a miracle. It is a miracle, but nothing just happens without a system, even miracles. Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani would lessen the usage of his tongue and increase the amount of his Akhfah; so on a distance, people would hear him well. However, this was a one-time miracle.

We have seen more miracles than this in every speech delivered by Lord Ra Riaz Gohar Shahi. There was no sound system, yet Lord Ra Riaz would be speaking and [His voice] would be echoing. This was the Akhfah.

Most spiritualists from different religions only know about enlightening and reviving the souls; they are not aware of what you can do with the souls. Through the Goharian Philosophy of Divine Love, we learned the functions of the souls.
To summarise: there are seven respective souls in the body. Enlightening, awakening and purifying them, making them functional and reaching your destination with the help of these functions is the main thing. This is complete self-realisation.

#AskYounusAlGohar | Does The Spiritual Guide Change One's Nature?

When a spiritual guide disciplines and purifies your Carnal Self (Nafs), does he change the nature of your Carnal Self too? This is the question.

It is notorious among all Sufis that only the spiritual guide will purify your Carnal Self and you can’t do it yourself. This is true, however the spirit of the truth is lost. It is not properly understood when it is said. What people understand by such sentences is that the spiritual guide is under some kind of obligation and this is his job and he has to do it. I would like to remind all of you that spirituality is not magic. A spiritual guide is not like David Copperfield who will steal the Eiffel Tower from Paris or the Statue of Liberty from New York and give it to you.
Spirituality is an act in which you want to purify yourself. You make efforts and the spiritual guide teaches you how to make those efforts.
It is not like the spiritual guide is responsible for the purification of your Carnal Self and you are not even involved in the process. That is not how it works. You make every effort the way the spiritual guide tells you to.

Your Carnal Self has to go through different experiences, patterns of discipline, purgation and austerities in which you restrain yourself from certain deeds, food and behaviours. [After all this], in the final moment, the spiritual guide will spiritually transmit some special divine energy which will enable your Carnal Self to get purgated.
Theoretical knowledge is different from practical knowledge.
For example, it is very easy to say, ‘Refrain yourself from all sorts of comforts.’ However when you come to practise it, you’re actually in trouble. It is easier said than done.

It is easy to say, The spiritual guide should purify my Carnal Self,’ but why should he do it? Does he owe you anything? When the spiritual guide was purified, what did he do? Did he sit home and his own spiritual guide made the efforts?
In purification of the Carnal Self, the most important factor is denial and negation of yourself. Purification of the Carnal Self is all about crushing your ego.
In Western spiritual principles, they think the other way around. They think the ego is your main power. However, the ego puts you in the race with others. Ego takes away compassion from you. Ego takes away God from you; you forget God and you start worshipping yourself.
Does the spiritual guide change the nature of the Carnal Self? No. The nature cannot be changed.

If a thief by profession becomes a spiritual man, even after purification, he will still steal things but for a different reason. [He will be] like Robin Hood. Perhaps he’ll think that he already has some expertise in this field, so why not use those expertise to benefit the poor people?

There was a similar character to Robin Hood in Punjab, Pakistan by the name of Sajawal. He lived in the 1970s. He used to rob the rich and distribute the loot among poor people. He would never save a penny for himself. People asked him, ‘Why do you steal and rob people?’ He said, ‘I am divine justice; I take away from the rich and give it to the poor.’ The police was after him and were never able to catch him. There was a Martial Law and Ayoub Khan was the president. Ayoub Khan requested Sajawal to meet him, but he didn’t. The police left no stone unturned in attempting to catch him but were never successful. Then, Ayoub Khan ordered the army to go after him.

The army platoon went after him and it was like a siege. They army personnel surrounded him, and he was driving a jeep. An army personnel said on the megaphone, ‘All your ways have been blocked. Surrender yourself.’ Suddenly, they say the sand started fly and it was hazy. His jeep and himself disappeared. Then the president of Pakistan, through the media requested him to come and see him. He promised that there would be no army or police waiting to arrest him. When he met him, the president asked him, ‘How do you disappear? What is the secret? Who are you?’ Then he told him, ‘I have been appointed by God to rob the rich and give to the poor people.’

So he was a good person, but he had an expertise in robbing people. He couldn’t change his nature.
Your nature will stay with you forever, no matter how purified you are.
Rumi said, ‘You can move the mountains but you cannot change the nature.’
