In Lesson 9 of the Elementary Sufi Course, Sufi Master Younus AlGohar explains in light of the Quran how to successfully adopt the religion.
Summary:
'Successful shall be he who has purified himself and commemorates his Lord and offers Salat'. - Quran 87:14-15
- The Quran mentions the order one has to follow in order to be successful: he has to purify himself, obtain the Personal Name of God in his heart and then worship.
'Salat stops one from committing bad deeds and immoral acts'. - Quran 29:45
- According to Quran 39:22, only one who has obtained the Opening of the Breast (Shahr-e-Sadr) for Islam is within the fold of Islam. Quran 94:1 declares that God granted Prophet Mohammad the Opening of the Breast, making this process the most important customary practice of Prophet Mohammad.
- The Opening of the Breast refers to the awakening of the inner faculties in the breast. It is not a simple thing. According to the Quran 20:25, Moses prayed to God to grant it to him.
- God granted the Opening of the Breast to Prophet Mohammad for his sake, because he loves Prophet Mohammad. Common people have to earn it by way of a Spiritual Mediator. However, since HDE Gohar Shahi has come, obtaining it has become easier than ever.

'Devout Believers are those whose Spiritual Hearts have been granted the contentment by God. Beware! The contentment of the heart lies in commemoration of God'. Quran 13:28
- This comes under the category of ‘Iqrar bil-lisan, tasdeeq bil-qalb’ (affirmation of the faith and progression to settling the truth in the heart).
'Only those are guided whom God wishes to direct. And those whom God does not wish to guide shall not find a Spiritual Mediator'. Quran 18:17
'In order to adopt Islam, whoever has obtained Shahr-e-Sadr (Opening of the Breast) with the name of God is a Devout Believer. And that person shall begin to receive divine energy from his Lord. Woe and destruction upon those whose hearts are so hard that they do not absorb the name of God, for this is sheer misguidance'. Quran 39:22
- When God guides somebody, his heart is enlightened with God’s light and remembrance. The hearts that do not absorb God’s remembrance and light go astray and are misguided. Guidance is not a particular act. Guidance is to have divine energy in the heart and God's name beating within it.
- If God does not wish to direct someone’s heart, there is no prophet or saint who can place God's name therein.
'O' Devout Believers, do not raise your voice above the voice of Prophet Mohammad (saw). And do not address him as you do to each other. If you fail to do so, all your deeds shall be wasted and you will not be aware of it'. Quran 49:1-2
- The religious clerics say that the Companions of the Prophet never sinned. However, the Quran says the opposite.
'O' Devout Believers, when you make a mistake and sin, ask forgiveness through Prophet Mohammad (saw)’. Quran 4:64
Prophet Mohammad said, 'Beware of the ignorant scholar'. The Companions asked, 'How can one be a scholar and ignorant at the same time?' Prophet Mohammad replied, 'Such a person is a scholar by tongue but his heart is darkened’.

Summary:
- The five subtleties in our breast - Qalb, Rouh, Sirri, Akhfa and Khafi - are associated with a specific Grand Messenger. So according to the divine law, the subtleties will only commemorate the name of God which was granted to their respective Messenger and no other name can enter the subtleties.
- To become a Zakir-e-Sultan, the Spiritual Mediator has to apply on behalf of the disciple.He puts in a request for the disciple to be freed from the Mashrab (spiritual perception) of all other prophets and messengers for except the Prophet Mohammad (saw). If accepted, the disciple's subtleties are all granted the Personal Name of God (Ism-e-Zaat).
- And when all 7 subtleties - including the Nafs and Ana - are engaging in the commemoration of God's Personal Name, this is known as Zikar-e-Sultani.
'Cut off ties with all your relations [all other prophets for except Prophet Mohammad], for your Lord is enough for you.' - Quran 73:8
- In regards to the Devout Believers, God says, 'And they perform spiritual journeys to the skies and earth'. - Quran 3:191
In Quran 4:103, God says in reference to the future, 'When your Salat becomes invalid, learn the commemoration which can be done while you stand, sit and toss and turn in your beds.’
- This verse of the Quran goes on to state, ‘and through Zikar-e-Qalb (Heart Activation), when there is contentment in your Spiritual Heart, then you may establish Salat.’
His Divine Eminence Gohar Shahi stated, ‘First, bring God’s name in your heart and when the commemoration of God’s name settles in your heart, it will automatically compel you to offer Salat.’

- The first phase of the Sufi path is Dhakooriyat (Knowledge of Commemorating God’s Names) and this includes Dhikr (commemoration of God’s name) with the different souls and spirits.
‘Fazkuruni azkurukum washkuruli wala takfiroon’.
In this famous Quranic clause, God states, 'If you want to befriend me, commemorate me and I shall commemorate you. And do not reject this truth.' 2:152
- This Quranic clause is commonly mistranslated and the word washkuruli is said to be derived from the word ‘shukr’ (gratitude). This is incorrect; commemoration of God and gratitude are two different things. The clause further mentions the rejection of the truth and if indeed washkuruli was derived from gratitude, it does not make sense in this context.
- HDE Gohar Shahi elaborates that the word used here, wahkuruli has not been derived from shukr rather it is from Suryani (the language God speaks), not Arabic. In Suryani, the word mashkoor means friend.
- Zakooriyat itself begins with the Activation of the Heart.
- To commemorate God verbally does not do it justice. God has invested multiple souls within each human being. All of the souls and their sub-spirits, including the Nafs (Lower Self) and Ana (Higher Self), must engage in God’s commemoration, and reach their respective realms. Only then will the requirements of this Quranic clause be fulfilled.
- If God wants to grant you an even higher rank in Zakooriyat, he will grant you to be a Zakir e Sultani.

‘One who is a Devout Believer (has been accepted by God), God will direct his Spiritual Heart.’ Quran 64:11
‘A devout believer is one who is not disturbed in the engagement of Dhikr Allah by any business.’ Quran 24:35
'They [the devout believers] commemorate God while standing, sitting or tossing and turning [in their beds].' Quran 3:191
- Therefore, the sign of a devout believer is that their hearts are engrossed in the undisturbed and uninterrupted commemoration of God’s name even as they carry out day-to-day tasks.
- The thing which must be engaged in the commemoration of God’s name must be something which can do so constantly and that is the heart. The heart beats whether you are awake or asleep. Therefore, it must be the heart in which God’s name settles.
- The first phase of the Sufi path is Dhakooriyat (Knowledge of Commemorating God’s Names) and this includes Dhikr (commemoration of God’s name) with the different souls and spirits.
- Fake Sufis cannot imitate the commemoration of God's name in the heart.

Summary:
- When an Indian national travels to the USA, he needs a visa. The visa is the USA's approval for him to enter the country; to apply for it, he needs to go the US Embassy. Similarly, one who wants to reach and love God needs to apply for God's permission.
- The approval from God in Sufism comes in the form of the Permission for Activation of the Heart (Izn-e-Dhikr-e-Qalb). This is the first lesson of Sufism.
- Those who seek God's approval cannot ask God directly, they need to seek permission through a divine embassy. And God's embassies are his friends like Data Ali Hajweri, Bulleh Shah, Abdul Qadir Jilani, Baba Guru Nanak, etc.
- When a seeker visits these saints of God, they ask the seeker why he has come to see them. If the seeker replies, 'I would like to become a Devout Believer', they take his application and submit it to God for approval.
- When a seeker comes to apply for God's love, their application is to verbally repeat 'Allah Hoo' three times after the Spiritual Guide. He will take their profile to Bait al Mamour (The Original Worship Place) where the special angels take that profile to God. God will ask, 'Why have you brought him here?' The Spiritual Guide will reply, 'I have brought him to befriend you'.
- Now, if God is not interested, he will immediately reject the seeker. If God is interested in accepting the seeker’s friendship, he will ask for a guarantor (Wali Murshid) who will take responsibility for the seeker so that they do not deviate from the path.
- Those who obtain this knowledge of Sufism will never say anything that is unsupported by the Quran and Prophetic Traditions (Hadith).
‘One who is a Devout Believer (has been accepted by God), God will direct his Spiritual Heart.’ Quran 64:11
Sultan Haq Bahu stated, ‘My Master implanted the seed of God’s love in my heart which flourished with modesty, piety, and acceptance of his existence and now my Beloved is present in every throbbing pulse.’
- The Personal Name of God becomes synchronised in the beating system of the heart with the spiritual concentration of the Spiritual Guide, thus reviving the heart of the aspirant with God’s name.

- People tend to say that Sufism (Tasawwuf) is derived from the Arabic word, 'sof', meaning 'coarse woollen cloth' - relating to the physical attire of many Sufis. However, when the word itself refers to spiritual knowledge, how could 'Sufism' have etymological roots in something as superficial as a type of fabric?
Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra) said, 'The word ‘’Tassawuf’’ has been derived from the word, "As-safa", which means to purify one's inner being'.
- The heart is the divine abode. Therefore, Sufism removes all God-opposing forces from the heart.
- The Spiritual Path is not just the core and gist of Islam, but of all the Abrahamic Faiths.
- Asceticism, when divine love is added, turns into Sufism.

- Ilm-e-Najoom (Astrology) is also known as Ilm-e-Jafar owing to Imam Jafar Sadiq's contributions to this field. The movements of the stars do affect one's life and temperament, but not their predestined fate.
- Palmistry is a legitimate practice. The lines in your palm are a sort of scoreboard which reflect your situation. The right hand depicts the future and the left hand depicts the past.
- The movement of the stars have a profound effect on world affairs. Currently, their movements indicate imminent destruction upon the entire South Asian region which would change the world.
- If there were to be a war between Pakistan and India, nobody would win. There would just be death. A war doesn't resolve the problem.
